Music has always been considered an important way of impact on mental and functional state of a person. Therefore, my project, which I am currently working on, is aimed at finding out what music genres are popular among teenagers in Zetland. To complete the project I have found some useful statistics in the form of a table.
The information presented in the table shows the popularity of five music genres. It is noticeable that 34% of the respondents voted for alternative rock musik, making this genre the most popular one. At the same time, only 7% of the respondents reported folk music to be their favourite, putting this genre at the bottom of the table.
It is worth mentioning that the number of teenagers enjoying pop music (30%) is twice higher than the amount of those respondents who prefer rock (19%) and three times higher than the number of those teenagers who chose rap (10%) It is obvious that pop music is more universal than rap and rock, it is suitable for different activities: parties, dancing, listening. That makes pop music more popular among teenagers.
In my opinion, the statistics point to an underlying problem. As one can see, the table does not feature classical music, which is extremely valuable for the cultural education of every person. To solve this problem, schools should focus more on musical education.
In conclusion, I believe that music plays an essential part of teenagers' life. It is educational and enlightening, as well as something that can help develop creative skills.
